Johannes, monk, presbyteros and chartoularios, 2nd half 11th century. Seal (Lead, 24 mm, 11.13 g, 11 h). MHP-Θ[V] Nimbate Theotokos “Episkepsis”, raising both hands in prayer; medallion of Christ in front. Rev. ΘKЄ R,Θ, / [I]ω AX ΠPЄC/[R]VTЄPO S / XAPT૪ΛA/PIW ('Mother of God, help John, monk, priest and chartoularios') in five lines, with a decoration above. Unpublished in the standard references. A well struck and attractive seal. Good very fine.

This seal tells us that John was a monk who had been ordained as a priest. As a chartoularios, he also had administrative duties, presumbably in service of his monastery
